October 20th - December 13th 2011
Gallery at the Consulate General of Mexico - 532 Folsom Street San Francisco, California
http://www.mexicosf.com/mexicoinsf/menu/numina-femenina
The exposal project Numina Femenina, Latin American Women in the Arts, fosters the exhibition and discussion of contemporary art encouraging cultural development through the scope of Hispanic women’s artistic production. Numina Femenina covers the art from its different disciplines, such as visual arts, literature, film, music, and dance. The project takes place in Mexico’s General Consulate in San Francisco, a heterotopy space where geographical barriers disappear and consequently intensify the cross-cultural exchange between countries. By taking art out of conventional spaces such as museums and conferences rooms, Numina Femenina aims to encourage women’s development by generating spaces for artistic creation and its exposure.

October 28, 2010 - January 9, 2011
California Institute of Integral Studies
This exhibit celebrates the threads that keep us connected to our cultural traditions by presenting works of artists who use traditional elements from their cultures to address contemporary issues. The artists draw from a vast variety of cultures: San Francisco’s Chinatown, the murals of East Los Angeles, Japanese American internment camps, Hawaii, the Mexico/ United States border, Guatemala, Iran, Japan, and West Africa. The traditional is used as inspiration, material and/or technique, as these artists help us break the boundaries of time and space.
This exhibition is being held in conjunction with Performing Diaspora, CounterPULSE’s festival featuring dance, music, theater, media and interdisciplinary artists who are using traditional forms as a basis for experiment and innovation. Join the conversation at www.counterpulse.org.
